Cornell Delta Gamma
Celebrating 140 Years "Doing Good" at Cornell

Delta Gamma is Doing Good
Our founders chose the Greek letters Delta and Gamma for their new organization to convey their commitment to “Do Good.” This remains Delta Gamma’s motto today and a driving force in all we do at Cornell. Chartered in 1885, Delta Gamma is the longest continually operating sorority at Cornell! We’ve been making meaningful philanthropic contributions on campus for 140 years, and each new Member Class carries on our long, impactful legacy of service. DG's philanthropic work operates on four levels:
1. National Level
-
DG’s national philanthropy is “Service for Sight.”
-
See this 3-min video about “Service for Sight.”
-
DG operates five US schools providing education, access and advocacy for children in the blind or visually impaired community.
-
To support Service for Sight, we host creative events and programs -- like Anchor Jam (student dance competition) and Sips for Sight (coffee sale) -- designed to be fun, impactful and inclusive of the community.
-
We also make braille & tactile cards for the students at the New York State School for the Blind (NYSSFB) who love to receive handmade cards they can truly enjoy!
2. Campus Level
-
On campus, we are making a significant philanthropic impact by hosting our FREE annual speaker event “REALTALK.”
-
We present REALTALK in partnership with the Cornell Gender Equity Resource Center (GenEq, formerly known as the Women’s Resource Center).
-
REALTALK’s mission is “to present Relatable, Empowering, Authentic Leaders sharing personal stories which engage, inspire and enhance the mental health of the diverse community of Cornell women.”
-
For highlight reels or full-length recordings of the REALTALK programs to date, go to REALTALK’s Video On Demand Channel.
3. Individual Level
Our DG sisters also support dozens of special interest causes and charities, individually.
-
Our sisters commit to fulfilling at least eight hours of service each year.
-
Other sororities require their sisters’ to conduct service hours supporting ONLY their national philanthropy.
-
DG encourages our sisters to support Service for Sight and/or ANY charitable cause important to them.
-
This approach generates a sincere & organic “Do Good" philanthropic culture for our sisters.

4. Scholarships

Delta Gamma’s National Organization offers three types of Scholarships for which DG's can apply annually:
-
merit-based undergraduate degree
-
merit-based graduate degree
-
need-based "Sister Helping Sister" grants
Cornell Delta Gamma Alumnae offer annual undergraduate scholarships to reward/support selected Cornell DG sisters:
